     James Pike was born on 26 December 1751 at Dunstable, MA.¹ He was the son of Daniel Pike and Sarah Kendall. James Pike married Ruth Ingals on 3 March 1773 at Dunstable, MA; listed as James of Groton.¹ James Pike died in 1820 at Hebron, NH.

     Note the existence of two nearly contemporary Lydias, first cousins, one in Dunstable, NH, and the other in Dunstable, MA. It would appear that this Lydia (in New Hampshire) is the one who married Enoch Jewett.

     Uriah Drury Pike married Hannah Keyes. Uriah Drury Pike was born on 7 July 1761 at Dunstable, NH.^1,2 He was the son of Daniel Pike and Sarah Kendall. Uriah Drury Pike died in 1822 at Hebron, NH.

     Esther Pike was born on 12 August 1763 at Dunstable, NH.^1,2 She was the daughter of Daniel Pike and Sarah Kendall. Esther Pike married Stephen Bartlet Goodhue on 30 December 1781 at Dunstable, NH; listed as Stephen of Hollis and Esther of Dunstable.^1,2

     Daniel Pike was born on 5 December 1765 at Dunstable, NH.^1,2 He was the son of Daniel Pike and Sarah Kendall. Daniel Pike married Sarah French, daughter of Ebenezer French and Sarah Proctor, on 14 December 1786 at Dunstable, MA.¹ Daniel Pike died in 1821 at Hebron, NH.

     Thomas Pike was born on 6 September 1767 at Dunstable, NH.^1,2 He was the son of Daniel Pike and Sarah Kendall. Thomas Pike married Ruth Keyes on 12 July 1790 at Dunstable, MA; listed as Ruth Kyes.¹ Thomas Pike died in 1838 at Hillsborough, NH.

     Joseph Howe was born on 1 February 1728 at Marlborough, MA.⁴ He was the son of Joseph Howe Jr and Ruth Brigham.³ Joseph Howe married 1st Grace Rice, daughter of Simon Rice and Grace Newton, on 21 May 1751 at Marlborough, MA.^1,2,5 Joseph Howe died on 26 September 1800 at Marlborough, MA; aged 72y, under the name How.^6,3
     Joseph Howe must not be confused with the younger Joseph, born 1740, who married Persis Rice (q.v.).

     Grace Rice was born on 13 June 1730 at Marlborough, MA.^3,4 She was the daughter of Simon Rice and Grace Newton. Joseph Howe married 1st Grace Rice, son of Joseph Howe Jr and Ruth Brigham, on 21 May 1751 at Marlborough, MA.^1,2,5 Grace Rice died on 23 January 1816.⁶

     Anna Bigelow was born on 25 June 1712 at Marlborough, MA, under the name Biglo.^2,3,4 She was the daughter of John Bigelow and Jerusha Garfield. Anna Bigelow married Deacon Matthias Rice, son of Benjamin Rice and Mary Rice, on 13 April 1731 at Southborough, MA.^5,6 Marriage banns for Anna Bigelow and Ensign Abraham Rice were published on 18 April 1766 at Northborough, MA; listed as Abraham of Marlborough.^7,2,8 Anna Bigelow married Ensign Abraham Rice, son of Capt. Peter Rice and Rebecca Howe.⁹ Anna Bigelow died on 14 December 1793; aged 81y, under the name Rice.^10,7,2 She was buried at Old Common Cemetery, Marlborough, MA.¹⁰

     Samuel Rice was born on 26 August 1754 at Marlborough, MA.^1,2 He was the son of Ensign Abraham Rice and Persis Robinson. Samuel Rice died on 1 October 1755 at Marlborough, MA; aged 1y.^1,3,4 He was buried at Old Common Cemetery, Marlborough, MA.³

     Persis Robinson was born on 7 September 1712.³ Ensign Abraham Rice married 1st Persis Robinson, son of Capt. Peter Rice and Rebecca Howe, on 21 January 1735/36 at Marlborough, MA, resided at Marlboro.^1,2,4 Persis Robinson died on 4 October 1755 at Marlborough, MA; aged 43y, under the name Rice.^3,2,5,6 She was buried at Old Common Cemetery, Marlborough, MA.⁵
     Persis Robinson and Ensign Abraham Rice resided in 1736 at Marlborough, MA.³

     Ensign Abraham Rice was born on 29 June 1709 at Marlborough, MA.^3,2,4,5 He was the son of Capt. Peter Rice and Rebecca Howe. Ensign Abraham Rice married 1st Persis Robinson on 21 January 1735/36 at Marlborough, MA, resided at Marlboro.^6,2,7 Marriage banns for Ensign Abraham Rice and Anna Bigelow were published on 18 April 1766 at Northborough, MA; listed as Abraham of Marlborough.^8,2,9 Ensign Abraham Rice married Anna Bigelow, daughter of John Bigelow and Jerusha Garfield.¹⁰ Ensign Abraham Rice died on 22 January 1786 at Marlborough, MA; aged 77y.^8,2,11 He was buried at Old Common Cemetery, Marlborough, MA.¹¹
     Ensign Abraham Rice and Persis Robinson resided in 1736 at Marlborough, MA.⁸ Ensign Abraham Rice was in the military circa 1755 during the French and Indian War. He was commissioned as Ensign. He left a will on 29 April 1785, proved 8 March 1786. The will mentioned wife Anna; sons Joel and Peter; daughter Elizabeth Bailey; children of daughter Lucy Mathews, deceased; and children of daughter Persis Howe, deceased. Son Peter, Executor.⁸

     Elizabeth Balcom was born on 16 August 1672 at Charlestown, MA, under the name Ballcome.⁴ She was the daughter of Henry Balcom and Elizabeth Haynes. Elizabeth Balcom married Gershom Rice, son of Thomas Rice and Mary King.^5,3,2 Elizabeth Balcom died on 16 August 1752 at Worcester, MA; as shown on a gravestone cited by Ward, but apparently no longer in existence when the comprehensive cemetery listing was published by Franklin P. Rice.⁶
     Note that Ward erroneously reports her maiden name as 'Haynes' on p. 7 but corrects the error on p. 26. Haynes was in fact the maiden name of Elizabeth's mother.⁵
According to the Abstracts of Early Worcester Land Titles (copied from Middlesex County records): "Gershom Rice of Groton, Conn. and his wife, Elizabeth, sold to her brothers, John and Joseph Balcom, of Sudbury, November 12, 1709, for forty and Two pounds Some part in money the other part in moveables It being part of the Portion of my wife Elisabeth of her father Henry Balcoms Estate formerly of Charlestown in the County of Middlesex..."⁷
A letter dated 1 April 1713 and addressed to Elizabeth Rice at Groton, CT: from "Elizabeth Balcom to her loving daughter, Elizabeth Rice, living in Groton." Letter also referenced grandchildren Gershom, Jr, Elizabeth, Matthias.⁸

     Lieut. Gershom Rice Jr was born circa 1696.⁴ He was the son of Gershom Rice and Elizabeth Balcom. Lieut. Gershom Rice Jr married Esther Haynes, daughter of Peter Haynes and Elizabeth Rice; Hester of Sudbury.^1,2,3 Lieut. Gershom Rice Jr married Bethiah (?) after 1770; as Gershom's first wife died in 1770.⁵ Lieut. Gershom Rice Jr died on 24 September 1781 at Ward (Auburn), MA; aged 84y.^5,6 He was buried at Old Common Cemetery, Worcester, MA.⁷
     Lieut. Gershom Rice Jr and Esther Haynes resided at Worcester, MA.⁸

     Elizabeth Rice was born on 20 October 1698 at Groton, CT.^1,2 She was the daughter of Gershom Rice and Elizabeth Balcom. Elizabeth Rice died before 1744.¹

     Abishai Rice was born on 16 October 1701 at Groton, CT.^3,4 He was the son of Gershom Rice and Elizabeth Balcom. Abishai Rice married Frances Rice, daughter of James Rice and Sarah Stone.^1,2 Abishai Rice died after July 1748.
     Abishai Rice and Frances Rice resided at Worcester, MA.⁵ Jotham Rice (WRN 245) and his brothers Zebediah, Tyrus, and Jessaniah, conveyed, 4 December 1734 "100 acres of land (in Worcester) to our brother-in-law, Abashi Rice, who married our sister, Frances Rice; which land was the homestead of our Honored Father, in part, and partly land of our late brother, James Rice, deceased ... " Sarah Rice, their mother, signed the deed, "I am content."⁵

     Sarah Rice was born on 9 February 1703 at Groton, CT.^1,3,2,4 She was the daughter of Gershom Rice and Elizabeth Balcom. Sarah Rice married Daniel Duncan, son of John Duncan and Sarah Dutton, before 1721; but the marriage is not found in any of the Massachusetts vital records, including those of Worcester. Ward mistakenly refers to Daniel as 'John Duncan' (the name of Daniel's father).^1,2,3 Sarah Rice died on 10 December 1781 at Petersham, MA; under the name Duncan.^2,5
     Note that Petersham was not incorporated until 1754. The births of the Duncan children, which all occurred before that, do not appear in the Petersham vital records.
On 21 August 1721 Gershom Rice conveyed 103 acres of land in Worcester to his daughter Sarah and her husband Daniel.¹

     Ruth Rice was born on 11 April 1710 at Groton, CT.^1,2 She was the daughter of Gershom Rice and Elizabeth Balcom. Ruth Rice married (?) Adams.¹

     Henry Balcom married Elizabeth Haynes, daughter of John Haynes and Dorothy Noyes, on 12 August 1666 at Charlestown, MA.^2,1 Henry Balcom died on 29 April 1683 at Charlestown, MA.^3,4
     Henry Balcom resided in 1665 at Charlestown, MA, where he was an admitted inhabitant and blacksmith on that date.⁵

     Elizabeth Haynes was born on 19 July 1644 at Sudbury, MA, under the name Hayme.² She was the daughter of John Haynes and Dorothy Noyes. Elizabeth Haynes married Henry Balcom on 12 August 1666 at Charlestown, MA.^3,1 Elizabeth Haynes died on 20 November 1715 at Sudbury, MA.⁴
     Elizabeth Haynes resided after 1683 at Sudbury, MA, after the death of her husband.⁵

     Mercy Welles was born on 15 October 1684 at Connecticut.^1,2 She was the daughter of Capt Samuel Wells and Ruth Rice. Mercy Welles died on 1 November 1684 at Connecticut.^1,2

     Samuel Welles was born on 9 July 1688.^1,2 He was the son of Capt Samuel Wells and Ruth Rice. Samuel Welles died on 16 October 1688.^1,2

     Huldah Hyde married Jonathan Edmands, son of Jonathan Edmands and Ruth Frothingham. Huldah Hyde was born circa 1730 at probably Massachusetts.

     Elizabeth Wheeler was born on 7 February 1685/86 at Concord, MA, (literally 1685).⁴ She was the daughter of Obadiah Wheeler and Elizabeth White. Elizabeth Wheeler married Elisha Rice, son of Thomas Rice and Mary King, on 10 February 1707/8 at Concord, MA; listed as Elisha of Sudbury and Elizabeth of Concord.^5,2,3,6,7,8
     Elizabeth Wheeler and Elisha Rice resided in 1708 at Sudbury, MA.⁹ Elizabeth was a Mayflower descendant from William White.²

     Elizabeth White was the daughter of Resolved White.² Elizabeth White married Obadiah Wheeler.

     Elizabeth Rice was born on 20 May 1663 at Sudbury, MA.^1,3,4 She was the daughter of Matthew Rice and Martha Lamson. Elizabeth Rice married Samuel Ware, son of Robert Ware and Margery Hunting, on 21 July 1690 at Dedham, MA.^1,2,5 Elizabeth Rice died on 18 November 1719 at Dedham, MA; under the name Ware.^6,7

     Dorothy Rice was born on 14 February 1664/65 at Sudbury, MA, (literally 1664).^1,3,4 She was the daughter of Matthew Rice and Martha Lamson. Dorothy Rice married 1st Eleazer Wood, son of Nicholas Wood and Mary William, circa 1685 (Ward indicates that Dorothy married Samuel Ware. This is considered to be a typo.).^1,2 Dorothy Rice married Capt John Ware, son of Robert Ware and Margery Hunting, on 21 December 1709 at Sherborn, MA; listed as John of Wrentham.^2,5 Dorothy Rice died on 10 December 1728 at Sherborn, MA; under the name Ware.^6,5
     Dorothy was John's third wife.⁶

     Mary Rice was born circa 1666 at Sudbury, MA, (not found in the published records).^1,2 She was the daughter of Matthew Rice and Martha Lamson.

     Isaac Rice was born on 1 May 1668 at Sudbury, MA.^1,3,4 He was the son of Matthew Rice and Martha Lamson. Isaac Rice married Sybil Collins on 27 September 1690 at Concord, MA; both of Sudbury.^1,2,3,5,6,7 Isaac Rice died on 4 February 1717/18 at Sudbury, MA; aged 49y (not found in the published records).⁸
     Isaac Rice and Sybil Collins resided at Sudbury, MA.⁹ Isaac Rice left a will on 3 February 1717/18, lodged for probate, 11 March 1717/18. Sybilla Rice and Phineas Brintnal, Executors. The will mentioned mother Martha; wife Sybilla; three unmarried daughters Martha, Mary, and Abigail; daughter Sybilla and her husband Phineas Brintnal; daughter Ruth and her husband John Goodenow. 22 Feb 1717/18, will contested by heirs, including William Rice (WRN 171) and wife Martha, desiring appraisal.¹⁰

     Abigail Rice was born on 10 March 1673/74 at Marlborough, MA, (literally 1673).^3,4,2 She was the daughter of Samuel Rice and Mary Dix. Abigail Rice died after 1684.
     Ward lists Palmer Goulding as spouse, but then goes on to explain that the Abigail Rice who married Goulding was a completely different person, the daughter of Timothy Rice of Concord (q.v.). It would appear that Ward initially believed that this Abigail was indeed the bride of Palmer Goulding but then found compelling contrary evidence. Regrettably, Ward does not describe the evidence.⁵

     Joseph Rice was born on 16 May 1678 at Concord, MA.^1,2,4 He was the son of Samuel Rice and Sarah White. Joseph Rice married Mary Townsend on 25 June 1701 at Boston, MA.^1,2,5

     Rebecca Rice was born on 6 April 1660 at Sudbury, MA.^3,2,4 She was the daughter of Joseph Rice and Mercy King.
     Rebecca Rice died young.^3,2

     Martha Rice was born on 14 January 1662 at Marlborough, MA.^4,1,2 She was the daughter of Joseph Rice and Mercy King. Martha Rice married Jonathan Coolidge, son of John Coolidge and Mary Ravens, on 3 December 1679 at Watertown, MA.^5,1,2,3 Martha Rice died on 10 December 1695 at Watertown, MA; (25th per Ward) under the name Cooledg.^6,7
     Martha Rice and Jonathan Coolidge resided in 1680 at Watertown, MA.⁶

     Josiah Rice was born on 13 May 1663 at Marlborough, MA, (3 May per county records).^1,2,3 He was the son of Joseph Rice and Mercy King.

     Mary Beers was born on 10 March 1642/43 at Watertown, MA, (literally 10(1)1642, but listed as 1633 by the Rice Gen'l Register).^3,4 She was the daughter of Capt. Richard Beers and Elizabeth Firman. Joseph Rice married 3rd Mary Beers, son of Deacon Edmund Rice and Thomasine Frost, in 1670.^2,5 Mary Beers died on 13 May 1677 at Watertown, MA; under the name Rice.^1,3,6

     Joseph Rice was born on 5 January 1671 at Marlborough, MA, (June per Ward) The Marlborough vital records show Joseph's mother as Martha. That appears to be in error as we have a death record for Martha, wife of Joseph Rice, in 1668.^1,3,2,4 He was the son of Joseph Rice and Mary Beers. Joseph Rice married Mercy Kerley, daughter of Capt. Henry Kerley and Elizabeth (?), on 10 November 1708 at Marlborough, MA.^5,1,2,3 Elizabeth Robinson married 2nd Joseph Rice on 4 December 1728 at Marlborough, MA.^6,3,7 He married Jane Corney on 14 November 1734 at Boston, MA; (Oct 18 per Ward).^6,3,8 Joseph Rice died on 3 December 1745 at Marlborough, MA; aged 74y 5m 28d.^6,3,9,10 He was buried at Old Common Cemetery, Marlborough, MA.⁹
