Ephraim Pratt was born on 30 November 1704 at Sudbury, MA, son of Ephraim and Elizabeth. However, Ward gives the birth date as 1687 and makes no mention of the parents. Further research is needed to confirm the identification.2,5 He was the son of Ephraim Pratt and Elizabeth (?).2,4 Ephraim Pratt married Martha Wheelock, daughter of Deacon Samuel Wheelock and Lydia Rice, on 9 July 1724 at Shrewsbury, MA.1,2,3,6 Ephraim Pratt died on 22 May 1804 at Shrewsbury, MA; but the death is not found in the Shrewsbury records. Ward cites a report from the Rev. Dr. Dwight, president of Yale, who visited Ephraim Pratt at Shutesbury in 1803 and believed the story that Ephraim was then 116 years old. On the other hand, Savage specifically discusses this reported case of amazing longevity (1687-1804) and comes to the conclusion that it was only a fable.7,2,8

Deborah Rice was born on 14 November 1697 at Marlborough, MA.1,3,2,4 She was the daughter of Daniel Rice and Bethia Ward. Deborah Rice married James Brown on 26 January 1724/25 at Marlborough, MA.1,3,2,5 Deborah Rice died on 1 December 1725 at Marlborough, MA.1,2,6
There is a conflict in the marriage of Deborah Rice and James Brown. Ward lists Deborah's parents as Daniel Rice and Bethia Ward. Supplement 1 lists them as Peter Rice and Rebecca How. Since there is only one marriage record for one James Brown, only one of these descriptions can be correct. Regrettably, the Marlborough vital records do not include a death or marriage record for the second Deborah Rice. Further, Deborah (Rice) Brown died before either presumed father died, and so a will would be no help.

Although the Rice Genealogical Register describes her as Ann or Joanna, daughter of Benjamin, her marriage record at Marlborough clearly calls her Hannah, as do the birth records of all her children at Westborough. She was evidently the daughter of John and Hannah Bellows instead. The Marlborough vital records show no trace of any Benjamin Bellows in that period. Hannah Bellows was also known as Joanna Bellows. She was also known as Ann Bellows.

Cyprian Rice was born on 17 December 1691 at Marlborough, MA, (1693 per Ward).3,4 He was the son of Capt. Peter Rice and Rebecca Howe. Cyprian Rice married Lydia Rice, daughter of Benjamin Rice and Mary Rice, on 25 December 1721 at Marlborough, MA.3,5,2 Cyprian Rice died in November 1788 at Brookfield, MA; (not found in the published records).6 He estate was probated on 2 December 1788 at Worcester County, MA.7
Ward subdivided this person into three supposed children of Peter Rice: twins Zipporah and Zephaniah, born on the correct date, and Cyprian, born a couple of years later. The 'twins' are apparently just mangled versions of the name in Cyprian's birth entry in the Marlborough vital records: 'Zipperan'. The name 'Zephaniah' was probably also partly due to confusion with a second cousin Zephaniah (WRN 306) who was born nine years later (also at Marlborough). He and Lydia Rice resided in 1722 at Brookfield, MA.6 Cyprian Rice left a will on 17 November 1785 at Brookfield, MA,, the will mentions son Solomon; daughter Betty Bridges; and grandsons Moses Rice and Silas Bridges.7
