     Anna Rice was born on 8 July 1759 at Massachusetts.^2,1 She was the daughter of Judah Rice and Sarah Kelley. Anna Rice married James McDormand, son of William McDormand and Mary McIntyre, circa 1776 at Annapolis County, NS.^3,4
     Anna Rice and James McDormand resided circa 1785 at Briar Island, Digby Co, NS. They lived first on Briar Island, but later some of the family moved to Ontario.⁵ Anna Rice resided circa 1813 at Centreville, Digby Co, NS.³ The IGI files for Anna Rice and her descendants contain dates that don't seem reasonable when one sets out birth and puberty time lines for Anna and subsequent generations. Therefore, your author has used the dates provided by Brian McDormand. Copies of the IGI files are available at local Family History Centers of the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter Day Saints and at selected public libraries for anyone who wants to do additional research into these dates.

William Pickett Rice married Eunice Prentice, daughter of Oliver Prentice, before 1806.¹ William Pickett Rice died on 9 January 1846 at Briar Island, Westport, Digby Co, NS; at age 83.³

     Eunice Prentice was the daughter of Oliver Prentice. Eunice Prentice married William Pickett Rice, son of Judah Rice and Sarah Kelley, before 1806.²

     Moses Rice was born on 7 June 1768 at Granville, Annapolis Co, NS.^2,1 He was the son of Judah Rice and Sarah Kelley. Moses Rice married Hannah Morse, daughter of Abner Morse and Anna Church, in 1795 at Bridgetown, Annapolis Co, NS.³ Moses Rice died on 27 September 1852; at age 85.⁴ He died on 27 December 1857.⁴
     Moses Rice resided in 1785 at Briar Island, Digby Co, NS.⁵ The dates of birth for Moses children are taken from IGI records. These birth dates do NOT agree with the birth dates that Brian McDormand gives in his McDormand family history. Until your author can verify Brian's sources, we'll use the IGI dates as the IGI files include a film source that the reader may wish to use to verify dates.

     Hannah Morse was born on 14 October 1780 at Annapolis County, NS, Banvard asserts that Hannah was born in Sherborne, Massachusetts, but her parents do not appear in the vital records of Sherborne after 1758. Also, Hannah's father, Abner Morse, was recorded at Annapolis, Nova Scotia in 1760, 1765, 1768, 1770, and 1792.^2,3 She was the daughter of Abner Morse and Anna Church. Hannah Morse married Moses Rice, son of Judah Rice and Sarah Kelley, in 1795 at Bridgetown, Annapolis Co, NS.⁴ Hannah Morse died on 2 September 1849 at Westport, Digby Co, NS; McDormand has the death year as 1840.^3,2

     Abner Morse was born on 25 September 1731 at Sherborn, MA.² He was the son of Obadiah Morse and Mercy Walker. Abner Morse married Anna Church on 19 February 1756 at Sherborn, MA.²

     Susan Hicks was born in 1788.² She was the daughter of Thomas Hicks. Susan Hicks married 2nd John Martin Rice, son of Judah Rice and Sarah Kelley, between 1814 and 1826 at Digby County, NS; no children.^3,4,1 Susan Hicks died on 15 June 1874; at age 86.²

     Sarah Rice was born on 4 September 1778 at Granville, Annapolis Co, NS.^2,1 She was the daughter of Judah Rice and Sarah Kelley. Sarah Rice married William Martin Johnson, son of Martin Johnson and Hannah (?), in June 1810 at Trinity Parish Church, New York, NY.      David Parker McQuillan was born on 27 September 1792 at Seabrook, NH.² He married Sophia Rice, daughter of Beriah Rice Jr and Catherine Owens, on 22 July 1818 at Baddeck, Victoria Co, NS; the marriage record includes the place of marriage as "Burdeck" and not at St George Church.³ David Parker McQuillan died on 2 May 1867 at Mira Bay, Cape Breton, NS.^4,2 He was buried at Mira Bay Baptist Cemetery, Mira Gut, NS.²
     David Parker McQuillan began military service between 1812 and 1815; during the War of 1812 as member of the militia of New Hampshire.² He was a joiner. in 1818.⁵ He resided on 20 June 1818 at Wasabackteh, Baddeck, Cape Breton, Canada, where he declared that he had been born in the United States and was a resident for 10 months.⁶

     John Hazelton was born circa 1702 at Bradford, MA.¹ He married Jane Wood circa 1728.¹ John Hazelton died circa 1777 at Uxbridge, MA.¹
     John Hazelton resided in 1769 at log cabin near West River, West Townshend, VT, He procured the original warrent for the town (of Townshend) in 1753. However he did not settle there permanently until 1769.¹

     Catherine Ann (?) married Beriah Rice Jr, son of Beriah Rice and Mary Goodenow, after 1801; Although there is uncertainty about whether Beriah had two or three wives, the 1818 census tells us that his last wife was the mother of Robert Muckford Rice and that her name was Catherine Ann. There is speculation that she was the daughter of Robert Mugford, who befriended Beriah, because Beriah named his son Robert Muckford. It is equally probable that Beriah named his son Robert Muckford Rice because of the senior Robert's kindness to Beriah. Therefore, your author does not give Catherine Ann the family name Muckford.¹

The 1770 census for Annapolis shows her parents with three in the household, two American and one Acadian. It is very likely that she was born in 1769 or early 1770.^2,1 She was the daughter of Ebenezer Rice and Tabitha Balcom. Anna Rice married Michael Spurr, son of Michael Spurr and Jane Shippey, on 3 December 1791 at Saint Lukes Anglican Church, Annapolis Royal, Annapolis Co, NS.^3,1 Anna Rice died on 8 April 1827.⁴

     Dorothy Balser was born in 1782.⁴ She was the daughter of Peter Balser and Catherine Zeiglar.^2,3 Dorothy Balser married Jonas Rice, son of Ebenezer Rice and Tabitha Balcom, in 1801 at Nova Scotia.¹ Dorothy Balser died on 1 December 1861 at Smiths Cove, Digby Co, NS; at age 79.^4,5 She was buried at Smiths Cove Cemetery, Smiths Cove, Digby Co, NS.⁶

     Margaret Robinson was born circa 1797.⁴ She was the daughter of John Robinson and Maria Marshall.³ Margaret Robinson married Levi Rice, son of Ebenezer Rice and Tabitha Balcom.² Margaret Robinson died on 25 April 1864; at age 67.⁴

     Michael Spurr was born on 1 April 1723 at Stoughton, MA, (not found in the published records).¹ Marriage banns for Michael Spurr and Jane Shippey were published on 25 October 1746 at Stoughton, MA; both of Stoughton.² Michael Spurr married Jane Shippey on 24 November 1746 at Stoughton, MA; both of Stoughton.^3,1 Michael Spurr died in 1774 at Round Hill, Annapolis Co, NS; between 18 April and 7 June.¹

     Michael Spurr and Anna Rice were legally separated in 1823.⁴ Michael Spurr left a will on 25 October 1837 at Clements, Annapolis Co, NS,, which was recorded 09 Dec 1840: LWT of Michael Spurr of Township of Clements, yeoman. Children: William Spurr, Josiah Spurr, Elijah Spurr, Diadama Spurr and Ann Spurr.⁵

     Jonas Rice was born in 1779 at Nova Scotia.¹ He was the son of Ebenezer Rice and Tabitha Balcom. Jonas Rice was baptized in December 1783 at Saint Lukes Anglican Church, Annapolis Royal, Annapolis Co, NS.² He married Dorothy Balser, daughter of Peter Balser and Catherine Zeiglar, in 1801 at Nova Scotia.¹ Jonas Rice died on 1 December 1861; at age 79.³ He was buried at Smiths Cove Cemetery, Smiths Cove, Digby Co, NS.⁴
     Jonas Rice and Dorothy Balser resided circa 1805 at Smiths Cove, Digby Co, NS. Ms McCormick notes; 'She was one of the founding members of the Smith's Cove Baptist Church.⁵'

     Levi Rice was born in 1781 at Nova Scotia.² He was the son of Ebenezer Rice and Tabitha Balcom. Levi Rice was baptized on 5 June 1786 at Saint Lukes Anglican Church, Annapolis Royal, Annapolis Co, NS.³ He married Margaret Robinson, daughter of John Robinson and Maria Marshall.²
     Levi Rice was a farmer at the time of children's baptisms between 1816 and 1846.⁴
