He was the first settler at the Head of the Tide, and built the first bridge across the River there. In addition to his Mill on the West Branch, he built vessels, made brick, burned lime. He built the 'Temperance' which sailed with Capt Leonard Troop as Master, Asa Goodwin, mate. The ship was never heard from again. Aaron Hardy was born on 14 December 1737 at Westborough, MA.2 He was the son of Aaron Hardy and Hepzibeth Bradish. Aaron Hardy married Eunice Gaskill before 1770 at Nova Scotia; the Southborough vital records list the marriage of Aaron Hardy and Lydia Woods on 11 May 1763. It is likely that this is either the second marriage of Aaron Hardy (Sr) or first marriage of Aaron Hardy (Jr). Was Eunice Gaskill the Eunice who was the wife of son Silas Hardy? A search of deeds for Worcester County and Annapolis County will perhaps resolve this question.3 Aaron Hardy died before April 1810.4
Aaron Hardy resided in 1765 at Annapolis, Annapolis Co, NS, as his name appeared on the petition to Grant Confirmation of the Township of Annapolis.5 He appeared on the census of between 1768 and 1770 at Annapolis, Annapolis Co, NS; enumerated in 1768 with 2 male and four female in his household, all (North) American born; enumerated in 1770 with 7 in his household, 2 American born and 5 Acaduan (Nova Scotia) born.6 He left a will on 10 May 1809, which was filed for probate 12 April 1810. Children: Silas Hardy, Marcy Wetherspoon, Aaron Hardy, Martha Slirk, Lydia Heaton, Hephsibeth Hardy, Anne Rice, Levinia Hood, Sarah Hardy, Polly Hardy.7

Eunice Gaskill1
Eunice Gaskill married Aaron Hardy, son of Aaron Hardy and Hepzibeth Bradish, before 1770 at Nova Scotia; the Southborough vital records list the marriage of Aaron Hardy and Lydia Woods on 11 May 1763. It is likely that this is either the second marriage of Aaron Hardy (Sr) or first marriage of Aaron Hardy (Jr). Was Eunice Gaskill the Eunice who was the wife of son Silas Hardy? A search of deeds for Worcester County and Annapolis County will perhaps resolve this question.2

Sarah Rice was the daughter of Ebenezer Rice and Tabitha Balcom.2 Sarah Rice married Frederick Balser, son of Peter Balser, on 27 November 1822 at Saint Lukes Anglican Church, Annapolis Royal, Annapolis Co, NS; in the presence of Jonas and Levi Rice, by John Millidge, Missionary. Sarah Rice was of the Parish of Annapolis and Frederick Balser was of the Parish of Wilmot.3
It is likely that Frederick was the son of Peter Baltzor and brother of Dorothy who married Sarah's brother Jonas. If so, this was probably the second marriage for Frederick who first married Alice Oliver.4

Timothy Rice was born circa 2 November 1812 at Cape Breton, Canada, at his second marriage Timothy declared his mother's name as Ann Rice. Although it is likely that this is the Catherine Ann listed as mother of Robert Muckford Rice, this marriage record is not compelling evidence of Timothy's mother.1 He was the son of Beriah Rice Jr and Catherine Ann (?).1 Timothy Rice married Augusta D Cole on 30 December 1840 at Beverly, MA.2 Timothy Rice married Betsy S Porter, daughter of Samuel B Porter and Dorcas (?), on 11 December 1845 at Beverly, MA; Timothy Rice, widower, aged 33y 1m 9d, cordwainer, born at Cape Breton of Beriah and Ann Rice & Betsy S Porter, aged 26y 9m, born at Buxton, Me, of Samuel and Dorcas Porter.1 Timothy Rice died on 19 September 1846 at Beverly, MA; your authors note that Timothy's death is not recorded in the Beverly vital records.3
