Anna Rice was born on 6 May 1722 at Westborough, MA.3,4 She was the daughter of Charles Rice and Rachel Wheeler. Anna Rice married Ebenezer Rice, son of Ebenezer Rice and Bethiah Williams, on 23 March 1743 at Westborough, MA; Ebenezer of Southborough.5,2,6 Anna Rice died after 1770 at Annapolis Royal, Annapolis Co, NS; The 1768 census for Annapolis lists Ebenezer Rice with 1 male and 3 females in the household. Sons Benjamin and Joseph are listed separately. (Cousin Beriah Rice's family had already moved away.) The three females can only be Anna (wife), Sarah (b1753), and Elizabeth (b1756) as daughter Anna died in 1751. The 1770 census lists four persons in the household, all American. Therefore, your authors believe that Anna was alive at Annapolis in 1768 and 1770.7
Anna Rice and Ebenezer Rice resided after April 1743 at Westborough, MA.8 Anna Rice and Ebenezer Rice resided after 1760 at Annapolis Royal, Annapolis Co, NS, (Ward mistakenly has them moving to Conway, where some of their children settled).8,7,9

Bethiah Ward1

Bethiah Ward married Elnathan Brigham, son of Thomas Brigham and Mary Rice, on 27 June 1705 at Marlborough, MA; (your authors note that Elnathan's name is damaged in the original church record, and the published record lists him as (Jo)nathan - it also gives the date as June 17).2,3,1,4,5 Bethiah Ward died on 15 April 1765 at Coventry, CT.1
Bethiah Ward was presumably the daughter either of Samuel and Sarah Ward (q.v.) or of William and Hannah Ward (q.v.). Both couples had daughters named Bethiah around 1682. Examination of the probate records for Samuel Ward may settle the issue.6

The 1672 birth record in Watertown is for a Mary Jones, not Hannah. If this first wife was indeed born on that date, then there was only one wife, and the Sudbury marriage record is simply wrong about her name. Hannah Jones was also known as Mary Jones; (per Bond).5

When Ward conflated the two contemporary Isaac Lelands, he also confused the name of one of the brides, describing Mary as Mary West, rather than Mary Hunt. It is possible that Ward had evidence pointing to Mary as a widow whose maiden name was West, but we cannot confirm or refute that scenario.
