Zerviah Rice was born on 23 September 1721 at Brookfield, MA.1,2,3,5 She was the daughter of Azariah Rice and Hannah Bartlett. Zerviah Rice married Josiah Wheeler, son of Samuel Wheeler and Joanne Walcott, on 6 June 1740 at Brookfield, MA.2,3,6 Zerviah Rice died on 21 March 1740/41 at Brookfield, MA; Zeruiah Wheler, wife of Josiah. The Brookfield vital records also records the death year as 1741 with the remark "in her 20th year."3,7
Your authors note that marriages of a Zerviah or Zeruiah to Sanford and Robbin are not found in the Brookfield vital records. The death of Zerviah Wheler is recorded in the vital records. That death record fits with the other information that we know about Zerviah Rice Wheeler and provides compelling evidence that the later marriages are in error. The granddaughter Zerviah Sanford that Azariah Rice mentions in his will is Zerviah Wheeler who married a Sanford.5

This is compelling evidence that a daughter Thankful, born c 1760, did not exist. He left a will on 13 December 1796, proved 23 October 1810.      Jonathan Walker was born on 15 March 1739/40 at Weston, MA.2 He was christened on 16 March 1739/40 at Weston, MA.3 He was the son of John Walker and Mary Grove. Jonathan Walker married Mary Rice, daughter of Azariah Rice and Hannah Bartlett, on 27 July 1763 at Sudbury, MA; listed as Jonathan of Weston and Mary of Sudbury.1,4,5
Your authors note that Ward identifies Mary Rice's husband with a question mark, and only the surname is certain. It seems quite likely that Jonathan Walker of Weston was married to an entirely different Mary Rice, possibly a sister of the Moses Rice who married Jonathan's sister Sarah.

Thankful Walker1

Thankful Walker was born on 25 February 1738 at Brookfield, MA.2 Ephraim Rice married 1st Thankful Walker, son of Azariah Rice and Hannah Bartlett, on 14 April 1757 at Brookfield, MA, Ephraim of Brookfield, Mass.1,3,4 Thankful Walker died on 5 November 1761 at Brookfield, MA.5,6
Ward includes a daughter of Ephraim and Thankful Rice with a death record of 5 November 1761. It is clear from the Brookfield vital records that this person is Thankful Walker Rice the wife of Ephraim and not Ephraim's daughter. This is compelling evidence that a daughter Thankful, born c 1760, did not exist.
