     Abigail Rice was born circa 1700, according to her gravestone.³ She was the daughter of Timothy Rice.² Abigail Rice married Capt Palmer Goulding on 4 December 1722 at Concord, MA; both of Sudbury.^2,4,5,6 Abigail Rice died in 1770 at Holden, MA; aged 70y.^7,3 She was buried at Old Common Cemetery, Worcester, MA.³
     There is uncertainty about the Rice ancestry of Abigail Rice. Ward says that she was "of another race", that is, not an Edmund Rice descendant. Ward ascribes her parents as Timothy Rice and Abigail Marrett of Concord, MA. In the year 2001 an Edmund Rice descendant from another line claimed that Abigail was Abigail Rice, daughter of John Rice and Abigail Clapp, born 8 September 1703 at Sudbury. Here is the evidence:
... Abigail Rice and Palmer Goulding were married at Concord, MA on 4 December 1722, both of Sudbury according to the Concord vital records.
... Abigail Goulding died in the year 1770 at age 70 according to a transcript of her gravestone at the Old Common Cemetery, Worcester.
... Timothy Rice, Ward's reputed father, estate was taken on 12 September 1692.
... Abigail Goulding's youngest child was born in the year 1739.
This is compelling evidence that Abigail was not the daughter of Timothy and Abigail Rice. However, given Ward's assertion that Abigail was not an Edmund Rice descendant we need evidence that she was the daughter of John and Abigail Rice of Sudbury (or of some other Rice). A will, estate probate record, or some other paper from John Rice that names daughter Abigail Goulding would be that compelling evidence.²

     Capt Palmer Goulding was born on 18 February 1722/23 at Worcester, MA.^1,2 He was the son of Capt Palmer Goulding and Abigail Rice. Capt Palmer Goulding married Rebecca Richardson on 31 October 1770 at Sutton, MA; both of Worcester.^3,4 Capt Palmer Goulding died on 30 January 1792; aged 69y.^1,5 He was buried at Old Common Cemetery, Worcester, MA.⁵

     Peter Goulding was born on 30 December 1736 at Worcester, MA.^3,4,5 He was the son of Capt Palmer Goulding and Abigail Rice. Peter Goulding married Lucy Brewer, daughter of Col Samuel Brewer and Martha Bent, on 27 November 1766 at Rutland, MA; listed as Peter of Holden and Lucy of Paxton.^6,2,7 Peter Goulding died on 14 July 1790.^3,5 He was buried at Old Common Cemetery, Worcester, MA.⁵

Regrettably there is no marriage in the Marlborough vital records for Nathan Brigham. However, the death information about Nathan's wife Elizabeth correlates with the birth record for Elizabeth Maynard.¹

     Your authors note that her existence is in doubt. The only evidence in favor is a reference in the will of Josiah Rice to 'son-in-law' Samuel Wood. Ward does not make clear whether that term has the modern meaning or the older one of 'step-son'. If, as Supplement 1 asserts (contrary to Ward and to the published transcription of the Framingham vital records), Josiah's wife was named Wood at the time of her marriage to Josiah, then this Samuel Wood was very likely her son by a previous marriage.¹
