Abiah Rice was born on 10 November 1761 at Princeton, MA, (also recorded at Holden on 13 June).4,5,1,2,3 He was the son of Henry Rice and Sarah Boynton.1 Abiah Rice married Sarah Sterling, daughter of Joseph Sterling, on 8 March 1787.3,2 Abiah Rice died on 26 April 1845 at Reading, VT.2 He was buried at Reading, VT.2
Abiah Rice was in the military circa 1776 serving in the American Revolution, Sergeant in the Army.1 Reading Historical Society Bulletin, July 1953 states: "Abiah came shortly after the Revolution. He dealt largely in real estate and prospered. After his death his widow received the pension during the remainder of her life. The gravestone of his wife reads, `Sarah, Relict of Abiah Rice died March 6, 1864 age 97 yr, 5 mo, 14 days.2'" He resided after 1780 at Bennington, VT.1 He was living in 1836 at Bennington, VT, as a pensioner of Revolutionary War.1
