Benjamin Houghton1

     Benjamin Houghton was born in 1690. He was christened on 3 August 1718 at 1st Church, Lancaster, MA; as an adult.2 He married Zerviah Moore on 28 July 1720 at Lancaster, MA.3 Benjamin Houghton died on 28 February 1764 at Lancaster, MA; aged 73y.4,5 He was buried at Chocksett Cemetery, Sterling, MA.4,5
     His farmhouse was northwest of what became Sterling center. The original house stood until 1821, when it was destroyed by fire.6 He owned a great deal of land in Lancaster and was known as 'Landlord Ben'. There was a joke about him to the effect that, if there were land in such-and-such a strange place (e.g., the moon), Landlord Ben would have a farm there.6

Sarah Gott1,2

     Sarah Gott was born on 21 March 1729 at Marlborough, MA.3,4 She married Capt Uriah Brigham, son of Samuel Brigham and Abigail Moore, on 12 July 1750 at Marlborough, MA.3,1 Sarah Gott died on 31 January 1815 at Marlborough, MA; under the name Brigham.3 She was buried at Brigham Cemetery, Marlborough, MA.5
     As of 2001, her gravestone had sunk so far into the ground that the date of death could not be seen.
