Martha Knowlton was born on 24 July 1748 at Shrewsbury, MA.2 She was the daughter of Abraham Knowlton and Martha Lamson. Martha Knowlton married Thomas Drury, son of Capt. Zedekiah Drury and Hannah Flagg, on 11 September 1769 at Shrewsbury, MA; listed as Thomas of Temple, NH.2,3,4,1 Martha Knowlton died on 7 June 1812 at Shelburne, MA; under the name Drury.5
The marriage identification is uncertain, as Thomas is such a common name. For example, there was another Thomas Drury born in 1747 (second cousin of this one) who lived in what became Auburn, Mass. That other Thomas is believed to have married Experience Butler. In any case, this identification hinges on Thomas' being described as 'of Temple' at the time of the marriage.3,4,1

Her name was evidently a source of confusion to the minister at Grafton. At least four of her children (Thomas, Benjamin, Molly, and Susanna) were entered in the church records at baptism as children of 'Thomas and Abigail'. Two of those were also recorded in the town birth records with the correct mother's name.5 She may have remarried in Auburn, 12 September 1779 to Samuel Hubbard of Holden, but direct descendants disagree.6
