Bathshebah Rice from "Nitchewoag" was cautioned, meaning that one was given a "warning out of town" to incomers by the constable, thus by law exempted the individual from liability for the future support by the community in case they became a public charge. The high and the low, the rich and the poor, all had warnings upon moving their residence into another town, or coming in to tarry there for a short time. On offence was taken at such messages from the constable, and they passed unheeded.
