There were possibly two contemporary Williams in Worcester both married to Marys, thus accounting for the two cases of children born in the same year but not the same date. It is not obvious which children should go with which William, except that William Gates Moore was presumably the son of Mary (Gates) Moore, and, similarly, the Sally Moore who married Peter Rice and named her first daughter Mary Gates Rice was presumably the daughter of Mary (Gates) Moore. Also, it seems very likely that the Mary Moore who married Peter Rice's brother Timothy was a sister to Sally.

He was born 10 Dec 1744 at Southborough, MA⁵⁵, died 25 Jan 1816 at Paxton, MA¹⁷⁸, son of Hezekiah NEWTON and Eunice BRIGHAM. Although this Silas Newton was born in Southborough, his family moved soon after his birth to Leicester and then to the part of Rutland that was set off as part of the new town of Paxton in 1765. He remained there and was thus evidently the Silas of Paxton who married Delia How.^{175 {p552}} He made a will at Paxton, mentioning sons Silas, Horace, and Winsor, grandson Larkin Buckley Newton, granddaughters Emily Grosvenor Newton and Deborah Hall Newton (daughters of deceased son Larkin), heirs of deceased eldest daughter Persis Davis, and daughters Lucretia Bullard, Phebe Earle, Delia Harrington, and Patty Grosvenor^{175 {p552}}. His will was proved 5 Mar 1816 in Worcester County, MA^{175 {p552},20 {docket 43416}}.

He was a delegate to the conventions of 1774 and 1775, preparatory to the American Revolution^{1 {p114}}. He was a representative from Hardwick between 1775 and 1784^{1 {p114}}. He made a will 20 Apr 1821, wife Dorothy and son Ashbel Executors. The will mentioned wife Dorothy; sons Ashbel, Stephen, and Thomas; daughters Mary Freeman, Hepzibah Rice, Lucy Rice, and Lydia Rice^{1 {p114}}. His will was proved 7 Feb 1832^{1 {p114}}. They resided at Hardwick, MA^{1 {p114}}.
