He was in the military serving in the Revolutionary War in Capt. Simon Edgell's company, which marched to Cambridge on the Lexington alarm in 1775^{71 {p209},159 {15:82}}. He inherited his father's homestead, plus a half-interest in the Stone mills on the Sudbury River, which he operated with Josiah Stone until 1822, when they sold out to a syndicate forming the Saxon Factory Company.^{71 {p208}} He made a will 18 Sep 1828 at Framingham, mentioning wife Persis, grandson Edwin M. Stone, two children of son Martin by his second wife, son Abner and son-in-law Nathan Stone to be residuary legatees, and son Abner to be executor^{71 {p209}}. His will was proved 17 Nov 1829 in Middlesex County, MA^{71 {p209},20 {docket 21534}}.

Abijah MOORE

Abijah MOORE [QQ4190] (Tamar⁴ RICE, John³, Edward², Edmund¹) , born 31 Aug 1724 at Sudbury (under the name Moor)^{11,2 {25, 77}}, son of Lt. William MOORE and Tamar RICE. The Rice Gen'l Register claims that Abijah died in 1796. Indeed, an Abijah Moore died that year in Boylston, but he was clearly a different person. The probate records show that Abijah of Boylston left only a wife and four small children.^{20 {docket 41254},2 {p77}}

He married Eunice GIBBS 28 Oct 1747 at Sudbury^{2 {25, 77},11 {199, 237}}. She was born 20 Feb 1726/27 at Sudbury¹¹, daughter of Nathaniel GIBBS and Bathsheba PARMENTER. Abijah MOORE and Eunice GIBBS were dismissed from the First Parish Church at Sudbury to a Christian Fellowship in Princeton 6 Aug 1764^{82 {p171}}.

Pending resolution of this question, we retain both marriages, as presented in the Rice Gen'l Register, and we similarly assign the children of William and Abigail to the uncle.^{2 {p77}}

The Sudbury vital records do show the death of a Samuel Sherman on Feb 18th, but the year is 1838, not 1738, and there is no indication that the Samuel in question was a child.

They resided about 1751 at Sudbury / Wayland, MA, on the homestead of his ancestor, Edmund Rice, Senior, and conveyed lands in Wayland to his son, Edmund, 22 February 1796; at which time he settled his estate upon his children and died in the course of that year. His widow, Margaret released to her son Edmund, on 8 April 1797, the improvement of her thirds in the real estate, excepting one seat of a pew in the meetinghouse for her own person during her life^{1 {p94}}.

She married second, Edward GLEASON. He was baptized 23 Aug 1772 at Framingham, MA¹⁶, son of Samuel GLEASON and Elizabeth BROWN. Edward GLEASON and Ann LOKER declared their intention to marry 14 Apr 1798 at East Sudbury (Wayland), MA⁶².
vii: Susan LOKER [QQ25501], born about Mar 1778 at East Sudbury (Wayland), as calculated from the death record^{2 {p109}}. She died 20 Dec 1857, aged 79y 9m at Natick, MA (under the name Loker), from old age^{181 {112:144},56}. She was buried at Natick, in North Natick Cemetery⁵⁶.

She married Ephraim LOKER 28 Apr 1796 at East Sudbury (Wayland), MA^{62,2 {p109}}. He was born 9 May 1773 at Natick, MA^{76,2 {p85}}, died 24 Dec 1849, (25th per gravestone), aged 76y 9m at Natick, from lung fever^76,56, was buried at Natick, in North Natick Cemetery^56,76, son of Captain Henry LOKER and Hannah BARBER.

Micah RICE [QQ2641, w532] (William⁴, Edmund³, Edward², Edmund¹) , born 26 Aug 1740 at Sudbury, MA^{11,1 {53, 95}}, son of William RICE and Hannah GRAVES. He died in 1783 at Framingham, MA, (not found in the published records)^{1 {p95}}. His estate was settled by his widow Elizabeth, who filed an inventory of £64.6.0 on 7 May 1783^{1 {p95}} On 29 December 1784, guardianship of Elizabeth and Levinah Rice, over 14, and Jane and Nellie Rice, under 14, minor children of Micah Rice was granted to Ephraim Jennings of Natick. He (Ephraim) married their aunt, "Sibleth" Rice (WRN 529).^{1 {95, 96}}

He married Elizabeth BENT 11 Feb 1762 at Sudbury, MA, Elizabeth of Framingham, MA^{1 {p95},11 {168, 260}}. She was born 1 May 1743 at Framingham, MA^{16,1 {p95},2 {p69}}, died 24 Jul 1822, (1821 per Ward) at East Sudbury (Wayland), MA (under the name Rice)^{62,1 {p95}}, daughter of John BENT and Elizabeth REED. The Bent genealogy asserts she married Jesse Eames (q.v.), but there is no record of the marriage, and, although Jesse Eames did indeed have a wife Betty, her age at death does not match the birth of Elizabeth Bent.^{23 {p28}}

She married second, Asahel MATTHEWS 25 Nov 1760 at Southborough, MA^{55,2 {p415}}. He was born 9 Aug 1732 at Southborough (under the name Mathis)⁵⁵, died 24 Jan 1811 at Southborough⁵⁵, son of Daniel MATTHEWS and Eunice MORSE.

She married second, Phineas GLEASON. He was born 16 Aug 1732 at Sudbury, MA^{11,1 {p143},14 {p47}}, died 10 Sep 1808, (8th per Supplement) at Westborough, MA, (not found in the published records)^{1 {p144},14 {p47}}, son of Phineas GLEASON and Rebecca ALLEN. Phineas GLEASON and Persis NEWTON declared their intention to marry 9 Nov 1771 at Westborough, listed as Persis of Framingham. This declaration of intent is mistakenly described as the marriage itself by the Supplement^{57,14 {p47}}.
